Privacy Policy

Maplure works in your browser first. This page explains what stays on your device, what reaches us, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated 4 November 2026

1.The short version

  • You can use Maplure without an account. Your projects, uploads and settings then stay in your browser.
  • If you sign in, we store your email address and the projects you save to your account so you can open them on other devices.
  • We don't sell your data or show ads. We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used.
  • Map tiles, place searches and routes come from outside services, which see the request but not who you are.

2.Who we are

Maplure (“we”, “us”) runs the map animation editor at maplure.com. For the purposes of India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we are the data fiduciary for the personal data described here. You can reach us at support@maplure.com.

3.What stays in your browser

Without an account, Maplure keeps everything on your device, in your browser's local storage and IndexedDB:

  • your projects and their autosaves, and the thumbnails shown in Recent projects;
  • images, icons, audio and video you add to a story;
  • brand kits and editor preferences, such as the Quick or Advanced view.

We never receive this data. Videos are exported in your browser too, so the finished file goes straight to your device. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it, and other browsers or devices can't see it. The Assets page shows what's stored and lets you remove it.

4.If you create an account

Signing in is optional. It lets you save projects to the cloud. When you sign in we store:

  • Account details: your email address and, if you choose to set one, a password, which is stored only as a secure hash. If you continue with Google, Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us.
  • What you save to your account: projects, saved map themes, uploaded icons and project thumbnails.
  • A sign-in session, kept in your browser so you stay signed in.

Accounts and cloud storage are provided by Supabase, which processes this data on our behalf. Files are kept in private storage that only your account can read. Projects stay private unless you make one public, which lets anyone with its link view it. We use this data only to sign you in and to give you back what you saved.

5.Services that see your requests

Maplure is built on open map data and a few outside services. They receive the requests needed to draw your map, along with your IP address and browser details, as any website you load does:

  • Map tiles and imagery are loaded by your browser from OpenFreeMap, Esri (satellite imagery) and Amazon Web Services (terrain elevation).
  • Place searches, borders and routes go through our server to OpenStreetMap services (Photon, Nominatim and OSRM), Google Maps Platform and Wikipedia. These services see the search text or the coordinates, not your IP address or account. We keep a short-lived cache of results so the same search isn't sent twice.
  • Hosting: the site runs on Cloudflare, which handles every request and keeps short-lived logs for security and to keep the site running.

Each of these services handles data under its own privacy policy.

6.Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit Maplure, how they find it and which pages and features they use, so we know what to improve. When you visit maplure.com, Google Analytics collects:

  • the pages you view and the site that sent you;
  • your browser, device type, screen size and language;
  • an approximate location, worked out from your IP address;
  • a random identifier stored in cookies, so repeat visits can be told apart.

Google Analytics doesn't receive your projects, uploads, prompts or account details, and we don't use it for advertising. Google processes this data under its privacy policy, which explains how Google uses data from sites that use its services. To opt out, block cookies for maplure.com in your browser, use a content blocker, or install Google's opt-out add-on.

7.Prompts and AI

On maplure.com, the prompt box doesn't use an outside AI model: a built-in parser in your browser turns your words into steps, and your prompts aren't sent to an AI provider. If we add AI features that send prompts to an outside model, we'll update this policy and say so in the editor before you use them.

8.Cookies and similar storage

Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_*, which last up to two years, to count visits as described above. We don't use advertising cookies. Apart from that, the site uses your browser's storage only for the things it needs to work: your projects and preferences, and your sign-in session if you have an account. Cloudflare may set a strictly necessary security cookie to protect the site from abuse.

9.How we use your data

We use the personal data described above only to:

  • provide the editor, sign you in and sync what you save;
  • answer you when you write to us;
  • keep the service secure, stop abuse and fix problems;
  • understand how the site is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it;
  • meet our legal obligations.

We don't sell or rent personal data, and we don't use it for advertising or to train AI models.

10.How long we keep it

Account data and saved projects are kept while your account exists. When you delete a project from your account, it's removed from our storage. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and everything saved to it within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to answer them.

11.Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
  • correct or update it;
  • delete your account and everything saved to it;
  • withdraw consent you gave earlier;
  • name another person to exercise these rights for you if you can't.

Email support@maplure.com from the address on your account. We may ask you to confirm the request comes from you. If you aren't satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India, or to the data protection authority where you live.

12.Children

Maplure is not meant for children under 13, and people under 18 should only create an account with a parent or guardian's permission. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has given us their data, write to us and we'll delete it.

13.Security and transfers

Connections to Maplure are encrypted, and saved files are kept in private storage tied to your account. No service is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data. Our providers may store and process data outside India, including in the United States and the European Union, under their own safeguards.

14.Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use data you've already given us, we'll tell signed-in users before it applies.
